Q.What is the definition of Overbite?

An overbite occurs when your upper jaw overlaps and goes beyond your lower jaw. A slight kind of overbite is not a significant problem but in some cases when the overlap between the upper jaw and the lower jaw is more than one or two millimeters, there should be a treatment from an experienced & specialist orthodontist to stop or prevent problems with eating, breathing, etc.

Q.What problems does overbite cause?

One of the main pitfalls caused by overbite is gum damage. In case that a severe overbite is at stake, the lower front teeth can get in touch with the gum line behind your upper teeth & vise versa. This back and forth effect can create gum recession. Damaged gums can turn into gum diseases and even tooth loss. Other serious pitfalls are speech and chewing difficulties. Due to overbite, one may face speech difficulties which cause speech impediments or overcompensation while producing specific words and phrases. Proper chewing is also affected by overbite.
